See you at Action for Wildlife Day!

Protect the Wild is heading to the Peak District! On August 10th – just two days before the Inglorious 12th and the start of the grouse-killing season – both Rob and Charlie will be at Carsington Water in Derbyshire for an Action for Wildlife Day.

Organised by Hen Harrier Action, the event is being held on the same site as Hen Harrier Day 2019. If you were there on that day you will remember a grassy area, a huge stage, a lot of people – and a really inspiring and fun day! We’re hopeful this year will be just as good.

SO MANY people to talk to!

Anyone who has been to an event like before will know that they are safe and very welcoming. There’s no need to be an expert conservationist or even to know what a Hen Harrier looks like, you can be certain that everyone is there for one reason and one reason only – because they care about wildlife (oh, and perhaps to meet Chris Packham if they get the opportunity too)…

There will be a really interesting selection of people on-site to have a chat with. Check out the image below of all the organisations that are attending. On top of that there will be a packed schedule of compelling guest speakers taking to the stage, including Chris P himself and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust CEO Jo Smith, plus spotlight performances by a leading gospel community choir and a guest set by legendary English folk musician Martin Simpson.

Actually, as co-sponsors of the event, Protect the Wild will not only be on site but we’ll be taking to the stage too – telling the audience about who we are as an organisation and what we do. And – as we will just have launched our new bloodbusiness.info website by then – we will be on hand to explain everything anyone needs to know about why we’ve launched a searchable database of businesses that support hunting and shooting as well (in a nutshell, so that as consumers we have a choice to avoid them if we want to!).

Facilities, Walks and Views at Carsington Water

There is plenty to do at Carsington too. Aside from the chance of the wildlife on the water, the Mainsail Restaurant offers a fantastic menu of freshly prepared dishes for a leisurely lunch, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options and a tempting selection of homemade cakes.

Along with the Watermark ‘Food-to-go’ Café and the Treasure Chest snack kiosk, visitors will find plenty of options to keep them going throughout Action for Wildlife Day. And of course, you are welcome to bring your own picnic and eat alfresco at one of the many picnic tables around the grounds. (Barbeques are not allowed on site, though, due to the fire risk.)

It will be a great day, and we’re really looking forward to saying hello to old friends and to making new ones! All we need to do now is to get our speeches written – and cross our fingers for a dry day (please, let there be sun!)

If you’re thinking of coming along please do let us know by joining the event page on Facebook! We will post any updates about the event there before anywhere else 🙂
